Mr. Van Gundy began his career as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified Airframe & Powerplant mechanic.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Administration from California State University, Los Angeles and a Master of Aeronautical Science degree with a specialization in Aviation Safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  In addition, Mr. Van Gundy holds an FAA Private Pilot Certificate.

Mr. Van Gundy worked as an avionics technician/aircraft mechanic for a Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations Part 121 air carrier and a helicopter manufacturer.  He has also served as an air safety intern and for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) learning on-scene aircraft accident investigation, report writing, and accident database recordkeeping.

Mr. Van Gundy also worked as a product support engineer for an avionics manufacturing company where he investigated reliability issues, wrote service bulletins, and monitored the throughput of avionics units in the repair facility.  He also visited customers’ maintenance facilities and helped solve operations and testing equipment issues.

Mr. Van Gundy supported the FAA’s Air Traffic Organization as a systems engineer in Washington, DC with safety risk management activities, wrote technical performance studies for operational analysis, updated training courses, and helped develop enterprise architecture products.

At PAI Consulting, Mr. Van Gundy is responsible for extracting pertinent information on highly specific aviation safety topics, analyzing the data, and providing comprehensive reports and presentations based on the findings.  Mr. Van Gundy also performs complex queries of the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing databases to conduct analyses that support aviation safety projects.
